No Piece!
Real chess. Robots versus aliens. Absolutely no peace.
Every piece on the board is a robot or an alien, and every capture is a short, ridiculous cinematic battle between attacker and victim.
In development for iPhone and iPad
Faction 01
Robots
Clanky, loyal, a little buggy.
Graphite, servos and burnt-orange warning paint, led by a king who is an obsolete computer that still thinks it runs everything. A robot solves a problem by hitting, building, firing or transforming something.
Faction 02
Aliens
Smug, strange, very shiny.
An empire of very different species, from tiny grays to a bored emperor on his throne. An alien solves a problem by doing something that shouldn’t be physically possible.
The idea
The rules are real. Nothing else is serious.
No Piece! plays by the actual rules of chess, so everything you know still works. What changes is what happens on the board.
One army is built from robots, the other from aliens. The pieces walk, hover and stomp to their squares, and when one takes another, the game cuts to a quick, over-the-top fight between the two. Think campy science-fiction B-movie, staged on a chessboard.
Want to stay focused on the game? You can skip any battle and get right back to your next move.
Built to teach
Chess that kids want to keep playing
No Piece! is made for kids learning chess, and for the grown-ups playing alongside them. The battles keep them coming back. The game quietly does the teaching.
- Difficulty that grows with themOne difficulty slider from Beginner to Grandmaster. Turn on Auto and it adjusts after every game, so players win often enough to stay keen and lose often enough to keep learning.
- A Beginner you can beatThe easiest levels make human-looking mistakes, play to the end and let a new player finish with their own checkmate. A friendly warning comes before an accidental stalemate.
- Help when you’re stuckStuck on a move? A HELP button appears. Your own King suggests a move, says why in plain words and lights it up on the board. Wins without help count for more.
- Checkmate coachingWhen a win is in reach, your King lets you know, and on the easier levels walks you through trapping a lone king, step by step.
- Levels to unlockExpert, Master and Grandmaster unlock one at a time by beating the level before. Achievements reward wins made without hints.
- Fights to collectEvery new attacker-and-victim matchup has its own cinematic. Each one you see is saved to a gallery, so there’s always another battle to discover.
- Play togetherTwo players on one device, with undo and checkmate help for both sides, one side or neither. Handy when a parent is teaching a kid.
- Challenges In the worksShort puzzle series that each teach one idea, like the knight’s L-shaped move or a fork, with stars to earn and cinematics to unlock.
